FROM THE DEAN Permit me to express my appreciation on becoming Dean of the Tampa Chapter of the AGO. This summer, as I began to think about our mission, I began to realize, once again, how valuable our contribution is to the general community. Though our expertise, we perform live music, on a regular basis on some of the most magnificent musical instruments in our area, often in architecturally signifigant spaces. We lead our religious communities in acts of worship, to glorify God and help to perpetuate the important traditions of our churches. Other forms of live music will come and go, but the church organ and organists will remain. For this, I think we should feel proud. Ours is a high calling. We should never take our responsibility for granted. As Pablo Casals once said, Music must serve a purpose, it must be part of something larger than itself, a part of humanity. As you prepare for your fall music activities, your board is preparing for our 2007/2008 Calendar of events. A meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, August 2, 7:00 PM at my home, 2707 West Morrison Avenue. The Board invites any and all who are interested in shaping our year to join us for this meeting.
